20 people shot, 2 fatally, over weekend; alarming increase over year-earlier weekend NYC

Shootings continue to rise across New York City, with 20 people shot in 16 separate incidents over the weekend — two of them fatally, according to NYPD data.

That’s compared to just five people shot in five incidents between Oct. 9 and Oct. 11 in 2019.

Overall, shootings have nearly doubled since last year, with 1,204 through Sunday, compared to 633 year-to-date last year.

And early Sunday, Tyrell Williams, 26, was shot in the chest on the corner of E.13th St. and Ave D. in the East Village. Police haven’t made any arrests in that case.
