BREMERTON, Wash. – Kitsap Public Health and the Washington State Department of Health are working to contain a COVID-19 outbreak at St. Michael Medical Center in Bremerton.
The health department says the hospital has reported more than 30 cases of COVID-19 among hospital employees and patients as of Friday afternoon. The first case linked to the outbreak was reported late last week.
The outbreak has spread to multiple units in the hospital, patients who have been discharged from these units have been notified of the outbreak, the health department says.
“St. Michael provides vital services to our community and we are taking this situation extremely seriously,” Kitsap Public Health District Health Officer Dr. Gib Morrow said. “Our team has worked closely with the hospital to notify people who may have been exposed and prevent additional illnesses.
The department of health says it is working with local public health staff to support the hospital in containing the outbreak.
Measures they have recommended include ongoing COVID-19 testing for staff and patients, screening of staff, and limiting non-essential access to the facility.
