White Woman Who Called Cops on Black Man in Central Park Is Put On Administrative Leave From Her Job; Dog Is Taken Away

The white woman who went viral after a video was posted of her calling the cops on a black man in Central Park has been put on administrative leave from her job, and her dog has been taken away.

Amy Cooper was put on leave as her role as Vice President of Investment Solutions at investment firm Franklin Templeton.

After the video went viral, her employer said in a statement on Twitter, “We take these matters very seriously, and we do not condone racism of any kind. While we are in the process of investigating the situation, the employee involved has been put on administrative leave.”

Christian Cooper was in Central Park on Monday when he asked Amy Cooper to put her dog on a leash. He recorded part of his encounter with Amy and posted it on Facebook, where it was shared thousands of times and sparked outrage as another example of white people calling the cops on black people for no good reason.

“I’m taking a picture and calling the cops,” Amy is heard saying in the video while pulling her dog by the collar and visibly choking it. “I’m going to tell them there’s an African American man threatening my life.

“I’m sorry, I’m in the Ramble, and there’s a man, African American, with a bicycle helmet. He is recording me, and threatening me and my dog,” she says while getting louder. “I’m sorry I can’t hear you. I’m being threatened by a man in The Ramble. Please send the cops immediately.”

Amy has since apologized for her actions, telling NBC New York, “I sincerely and humbly apologize to everyone, especially to that man, his family. It was unacceptable, and I humbly and fully apologize to everyone who’s seen that video, everyone that’s been offended…everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and I understand why they do.

“When I think about the police, I’m such a blessed person. I’ve come to realize, especially today, that I think of [the police] as a protection agency, and unfortunately, this has caused me to realize that there are so many people in this country that don’t have that luxury,” she added.

Her dog was also taken away by the Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue in New York after video showed the dog in distress. Amy “voluntarily surrendered the dog in question to our rescue while this matter is being addressed. The dog is now in our rescue’s care, and he is safe and in good health,” the rescue said.

Meanwhile, Christian Cooper said, “I videotaped it because I thought it was important to document things. Unfortunately we live in an era with things like Ahmaud Arbery, where black men are seen as targets. This woman thought she could exploit that to her advantage, and I wasn’t having it.”
