One elderly man killed, another seriously hurt in Willington assault; state police warn suspect is armed and dangerous

One elderly man was killed and another seriously hurt in an assault in Willington on Friday and state police are warning the public that the suspect is armed and dangerous.

Troopers were sent to Mirtl Road about 9 a.m. on reports of a serious assault. When they arrived, they found the victims and quickly began CPR given the extent of the injuries, state police spokesman Trooper Josue Dorelus said.

Both were taken to an area hospital, at least one of whom was flown by LifeStar Helicopter, he said.

Theodore Demers, 62, of Willington, was pronounced dead.

State police investigators believe the suspect used an edged weapon during the assault. Dorelus said the injuries were “extremely serious, potentially life threatening," but the exact condition of the victim was not immediately available.

Investigators are looking for the suspect, who was seen leaving the area on a large red motorcycle, wearing a multicolored helmet that is possibly red and white. He was spotted heading toward Route 20. They warned residents that he is believed to be armed and dangerous.
