Celebrating The Records That Built Uptown Records and The Legacy of Andre Harrell

On Sunday May 17th at 7pm (est) and 4 pm (pst), Join @TeddyRiley1 and @Jamiefoxx will be on IG live with @TheRealBreyonPrescott and @DjEddieF to celebrate the records and the people that made UpTown Records a part of iconic music history.

As we celebrate the life of Andre Harrell, Baller Alert got a chance to speak with a few people that were close to Harrell and the beginning of Uptown Records.

Jimmy “Luv” Jenkins – “Andre was the visionary of every record label that came behind us. The blueprint was Uptown. Without him, the spirit of the party ain’t go be the same because through any tragedy    or anything we always party. That’s how we grieve, that’s how we celebrated, and that’s how we love.”

Teddy Riley- “The importance of celebrating Uptown Music and Andre Harrell is at the top of my list, which is why everything that I’m posting now… it just shows how Andre has been to us. We were planning on giving him his flowers by opening back up Uptown and doing MCA. Andre is our new millennium. He’s like our today Bill Busby meets Berry Gordy. I have to say we go get “Ghetto Fabulous,” which is his favorite word.”

DJ Eddie F- “He was the connoisseur of the culture. He basically gave birth to a whole generation of hip-hop professionals  with a cutting edge sense of music, fashion, business, and the Uptown Harlem fly lifestyle.”

Jamie Foxx- “You were more than just an incredible music producer and executive… You were an architect of artistry… I thank you for the times you spoke to me and made a country boy feel like I could survive in the big city.”

Baller Alert also had the opportunity to speak with Breyon Prescott, who is also hosting the Celebration of Uptown Records alongside Teddy Riley, Jamie Foxx, and DJ Eddie F. He talked to us on why the culture needed this celebration of music.

Breyon Prescott- “I just wanted to pay tribute to the Uptown sound and the great Andre Harrell for showing us the way…Black Excellence and being fly. It’s a celebration of music that was created by the iconic Andre Harrell.”
