Disney Is Reportedly Planning A Live-Action ’Hercules’ And Mulling Over Big Name Directors For The Production

Disney Studios has decided on its next live-action remake of one of their classic animated films— 1997’s Hercules.

According to theDisinder.com, the studio has already hired “The Lion King” producers Jeffery Silver and Karen Gilchrist to produce the project and are mulling over big-name directors to helm the production.

The Disinder claims three major Hollywood directors are being looked at to direct. Jon Favreau, who has directed two of the studio’s most successful live-action remakes, “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book,” is a possibility. While the Russo Brothers-Joe and Anthony Russo, who have been responsible for four of the most highly-praised and financially successful Marvel films of all-time Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame is another.

Lastly, Gore Verbinski, who was the director that brought Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” to its heights as another one of the studio’s biggest franchises, is the final director in question.

The Hercules remake is expected to be an actual theatrical release, not a Disney+ original like the upcoming “Lady and the Tramp.” The studio already has remade classics like “Robin Hood” and “Lilo & Stitch,” which are both in pre-production. The live-action “Hercules” is expected to feature songs from the original animated film, which featured the voices of Danny DeVito and Tate Donovan, along with new ones likely being added.
