The Louisville Metro Police Department has made an arrest in a fatal shooting in Old Louisville.

According to officials, Kayla Hunter-Purcell, 21, was killed after police say she got into an altercation with Jaylin Bell, 24, in the 100 block of East Caldwell Street in December 2019.

Arrest slips say Bell attempted to grab a gun from Purcell's waistband and take it from her during the altercation. Purcell urged Bell to stop because the gun was loaded. He eventually pulled it away from her, which caused the gun to discharge, striking her in the chest.
Purcell was transported to University Hospital, where she died from her injuries. According to family, she leaves behind three children: a 4-year-old son, a 2-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old daughter.

Bell was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder. He was charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and tampering with physical evidence.
