Virgil Abloh, Off-White Founder & Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton Menswear, Believes That Streetwear Will Die In the Next Decade

As a pioneer of streetwear in this decade, Louis Vuitton’s Menswear Artistic Director, Virgil Abloh, feels that fashion will take a different route in 2020, moving away from streetwear and into the realms of vintage.

The Off-White founder recently sat down with Dazed Magazine to discuss the fashion industry, including where he saw streetwear going, a fashion lane that Abloh has long been able to dominate. However, the 39-year-old says that the trend is on its way out.

“I would definitely say it’s gonna die, you know?” he said. “Like, it’s time will be up. In my mind, how many more t-shirts can we own, how many more hoodies, how many sneakers? I think that like we’re gonna hit this like, really awesome state of expressing your knowledge and personal style with vintage – there are so many clothes that are cool that are in vintage shops, and it’s just about wearing them.”

Vintage clothing has been making its way back to mainstream fashion for quite some time now, with companies like Etsy, becoming a marketplace for vintage pieces. Companies like Tommy Hilfiger have also re-released designs from the late ’80s and 90s to fulfill this nostalgic wave.
