GoldLink Addresses Controversy Following Mac Miller Tribute Post: “Without Mac Miller, There Would Be No GoldLink”

GoldLink made headlines earlier this week for a tribute he made on #Instagram to the late hip-hop artist Mac Miller.

The post sparked widespread backlash, as many fans and friends of the late rapper were offended by GoldLink’s words.

GoldLink began his post, saying, “I’d be lying if I said I was surprised to hear that you died on us. Not because you were necessarily troubled, but because you were special, and because of that, you were troubled.”

The post went on to talk about the similarities between their music as well as the ups and downs throughout their friendship.

In response, Anderson .Paak took to Instagram in support of Miller, stating, “You ain’t the first to make an album inspired by a relationship, you ain’t the first to make a song featuring Anderson .Paak. But you are the first to disrespect my friend who is no longer here for absolutely no reason, and I can’t stand for that.”

Days later, GoldLink took to the stage and spoke out about his intentions behind the post, saying his post was expressing his love for Miller.

“The whole post that I made about Mac Miller was about love and that n***as can actually be brothers,” he said. “It wasn’t about stealing. I never used the word copy. I never used the word steal. The thing is, Mac Miller wrote all of Divine Feminine. That was a great album. The fact that he made a n***a cake was one of the most heartwarming sh*ts when you’re a young n***a in the game. What rapper makes other rappers cakes? That’s some cute boyfriend-girlfriend sh*t we was doing.”

GoldLink also responded to the critics stating, “I’mma be a sacrifice for everybody in this f*cking sh*t right now. You say whatever the f*ck you want… you say it however the f*ck you want it. You don’t have to explain yourself to no-motherf*cking-body… we ain’t worried about n***as that we don’t know.”

“That’s one of the realest n***as I ever met. So I don’t give a f*ck what nobody say about it,” he said. “Without Mac Miller, there would be no GoldLink.”
