Beto O’Rourke Announces He’s Running For President in 2020

March 14, 2019

On Thursday, Beto O’Rourke, who rose to political prominence in last year’s Senate race in Texas, announced his decision to run for president in the 2020 election.

“I am running to serve you as the next president as the next president of the United States of America,” O’Rourke said in a video shared to his Twitter. “This is a defining moment of truth for this country and for every single one of us. The challenges we face right now, the interconnected crises in our economy, our democracy and our climate have never been greater.”

Elsewhere in the 3:29 announcement, O’Rourke said he planned to kick off his campaign in his hometown of El Paso, Texas on March 30, and shared a few important issues he plans to address on his forthcoming trail.

“There’s a lot more to come but I wanna leave you with this,” O’Rourke said. “The only way for us to live up to the promise of America is to give it our all and to give it for all of us. We are truly now more than ever the last great hope of earth. At this moment of maximum peril and maximum potential, let’s show ourselves and those who will succeed us in this great country just who we are and what we can do.”
